  1. Communications Volunteer

We are looking for someone with a background in journalism, web design, communications and/or media studies who can formulate a communications plan to build our social media presence. We have a Facebook group and Twitter, but want to start using social media options that appeal to a younger audience.

With support from the Project Lead, the volunteer will develop and implement a communications plan for the next two years. We would like to start a quarterly newsletter and be able to highlight volunteer experiences and report on the impact Eye Heroes have in their communities.

We are always open to new ideas and suggestions, so there is room for you to use your own creativity in this position! A key to success in this role is to be highly motivated, self-directed and results driven, as there are no set office hours.

Volunteer profile

Required:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Relevant studies or work experience in marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism, etc.

  • Interest in our work at Eye Heroes, and our mission

  • Highly motivated, self-directed and results-driven

  • The ability to reformulate ideas through various communication channels

  • Ability to work to deadlines

  • Excellent organisational skills and problem-solving skills

  • An understanding of social media

  • Creativity

  • 3 months minimum commitment at 3-4 hours per week

Desired:

  • Experience in writing reports/newsletters

  • Experience in website maintenance and layout design

  • Photography skills

People whose lives have been affected by sight loss have an important voice in the work we do. Hence, we particularly encourage applications from anyone who has personal experience of sight loss or blindness, including those impacted through a loved one’s circumstances.
